There are many benefits of physical exercises for our residents, regardless of their different abilities. These includes:

  • Overall fitness
  • Improvements inflexibility, strength and motor skills
  • An increase in confidence
  • An outlet for creativity & imagination
  • Stress relief

Counselling

Counselling plays a significant role for their psychological wellbeing. Some of them need regular medication to control their behavioural problems, as well as a living environment where they receive the support they need to face the stigma of their disease. Some of them need mobility support equipment

Behaviour modification:

Each of individual has unique problems & needs so there is no one method that should be prescribed for any one problem. The first step is to study the individual, his/her likes & dislikes, circumstances, idiosyncratic behavior patterns and so on. As they are all intellectually disabled so they also easily learn others maladaptive behavior. So it is our main challenge to start an effective behavior modification program for them.

There are however certain procedures that we follow: –

  • Positive reinforcement
  • Time out from positive reinforcement
  • Stimulus control
  • Extinction
  • The least restrictive alternatives
